Well, I don't usually go around just touching things, so unless it attacks, avoiding it should be easy enough.

No, there is the occasional tendril, but it hasn't caused any harm that I'm aware of. It is only the flesh wall you must be wary of. It does occasionally attempt to consume those that rest on it.
