Most of what you need to know about big companies like this boils down to one thing: they're gonna tell you what they think you wanna hear. Doesn't mean it's necessarily a lie, but... ah, what do they say. Trust but verify.
I mean...since none of us really remember how we got here and they can't exactly confirm why that is it's hard to think they're actually telling the truth in the first place. [ trust no bitch. ]
How hard do you think it's going to be to actually verify anything with them?
If they know how to drag things out, you'll wait eight weeks to hear back from them, and it'll be a form letter saying you didn't submit all the paperwork.
[ the semi-flat look becomes an extremely flat look, actually. ]
Of course that's how it'd work. Never taking responsibility for their own mistakes. [ but there's a nod. ] Maintenance tools mostly. I don't think I'll have the materials to make another robot like it, but at least I can make sure it stays in good condition and maybe work on some upgrades.
[ oh...the bot seems a little surprised, but it tilts back a little like it's trying to tilt its head back to see its new friend. ]
Whatever I feel like challenging myself with, probably. [ haha. ] But it'll depend on what we're really doing here, too. Maybe up how much weight it can carry again. Extend its range of motion. Things like that.
I saw nothing in the contract that said otherwise. [ lmao. ] Pretty sure that's the route most of us should be taking at this point. Even if it's unconventional.
[ a small glance at the bug arm. it's mostly out of curiosity more than anything. ]
Hey, you never know. A little on the job training and he could be pushing boxes with the rest of us. [ it is a bug. he is not serious. ] ...surprised something like that came with you though.
[ just a very gentle patpat for the roach with a robo-finger. thank you roboji. shoma is watching this bug and vaguely alarmed that it has enough sentient to know what the hell is happening. ]
...I can't believe I'm asking this, but do you, like, have a personal connection with this bug or something...?
Better to beat the allegations before they could form? [ haha. ] I mean...considering all of the other things people have shown up with here and the things on their profiles, that's probably a good idea. Who knows what ideas people are going to come up with.
Yeah...not really the thing I wanted to be reading from the profile of the guy who started screaming in the bathroom yesterday. Then again they brought somebody whose skills also include blowing up the moon. I'm not sure their background checks were that clear.
Never thought I'd need to know somebody who could. [ i hope we have to blow up a moon. ] What else do you think we're actually going to have to do here?

[a low whistle.]
Legal departments. Easier to just finish out eight weeks.
no subject
Eight weeks is a really long time. [ a number of things could happen. ] You think it'd take even longer to reach a legal department?

[maybe this one's different, but.
he gestures to the robot-]
Tools for working on more like this little guy?

[the roach that's been chilling with him flies over to perch on the bot's head. bored of gregor now. only robot.]

[the roach seems to be leaning forward to peer over the top of the robot as it leans back, its little antennae wiggling.]
Little guy like that could make itself pretty handy, if they're really gonna have you running around.
no subject
That's sort of what I was thinking, too. If it's here, I may as well let it help out and do the work for me. Nobody said I couldn't.

[it's only fair.]

[a look at the roach... who innocently wiggles its leggies. it is a bug. it cannot work.]

[the roach's leggies wave HARDER. indignant? maybe.]

[the bug is just Always Present, whether he likes it or not.]

[and his own coworkers have occasionally not left it alone,]
Figured it's worth getting it out of the way.
