Perhaps what bothers me most is that every single vote was directly responsible for one of them's survival, regardless of on who it was placed. We all buried them both with our own hands.

I don't know about that. Sure, voting's on our hands, but- not like any of us meant to see 'em both tie like that. We even decided we were just gonna do one.
Does it make it sound any better if we try to take this as the whims of luck? As if no matter our efforts we don't have any control over how badly we're battered by all this?
