Might not have been logical to all of them, either, but-- it's not everybody who can hold on to logic in that kinda situation. Even if you know reasonably that it shouldn't be possible.

I certainly don't blame them for it. [ this is just how he functions. it's how he has to function, so deeply entrenched in cynicism and doubt that it's simply - what he does. ]
In the end, it didn't matter. All hell broke loose before the execution happened: the creature broke containment and began to slaughter everything and everyone in sight.

Yes. I imagine it could have been much worse - we got lucky, in a few regards. Owner was able to find the center of the thing and destroy it, and I... well. Thankfully, for many reasons, whatever magical signal that creature was giving off was strong enough that it caused the nanites to fluctuate, so I had my magic. Spotty and tenuous, but I had it nonetheless.
-really. So there's ways to disrupt these things...
